We are located 1 1/2 blocks north of Bluemound Rd. Pilgrim Parkway is the continuation of Moorland Rd. to the north of Bluemound Rd.
Please look for our building sign “PILGRIM PLACE OFFICE PARK,” the buildings look like condos so it can be confusing to first time visitors.
Our office is on the right when entering the parking lot.
Parking is available in the front and rear, handicapped parking in rear. There is a central building elevator.

Investment management

Would you rather do something else with your time than manage your investments?

We are investors not traders. We manage investments in a diversified manner with a total portfolio approach, incorporating all your assets, including real estate, business, employer plans and personal assets, like slices in a pie.

Our clients are looking for balance; someone to step into their shoes and invest the way they would if they had the time, the interest and the knowledge. It is our goal to help you understand, feel secure, confident, and capable every step of our path together.

We take into account where you are, where you want to be and how fast you want/need to get there.

First we determine your needs and objectives:

  • Do you need income now or later?
  • What are your specific investment goals?
  • What is your investment history and/or experience?
  • How well do you tolerate volatility or instability?
  • Are there to be any restrictions?

Next we design a strategy to establish the slices of your “pie:”

  • We set the direction you wish to take your manageable assets
  • Balance your illiquid assets with manageable assets in a diversified manner

Implementation:

Together we update your plan regularly to adjust to your changing needs and goals. On a monthly basis we track the current estimate of our holdings. We have a system that enables us to more consistently “buy low and sell high” and helps to override natural human emotion.

Knowledge for your journey

What are manageable assets? Cash, stocks, bonds and other investments.
What are liquid assets? Assets that are hard to convert into cash or are lacking cash. e.g. Real Estate, Business, etc.
What are investment restrictions? Things you would never buy or sell.

A Diversified Approach with a Value Tilt:

Using our value oriented approach, we diversify by the three categories, stock, bond, and cash, as well as, by asset class and/or sector. We further diversify by active and passive type and equity style of growth and value. This diversification is done to reduce investment correlation.

We then measure this approach against a composite benchmark similar to your projected risk level. The broad approach utilizes a core and satellite structure and emphasizes liquid investments.

Downside Protection:

As the markets have become more volatile, we will use vehicles that protect us for this exposure primarily using mutual funds and ETFs. To balance that volatility, we use vehicles that utilize long-short, merger arbitrage, managed futures, commodity, currency, and tactical asset allocation strategies.

These are predominately satellite positions designed to cushion the portfolio in highly correlated down markets. Since we believe no one can accurately time the markets, we will stay as fully invested as possible based on the availability of reasonably priced securities.



Tax planning 

Taxes can’t be avoided, but planning helps to lessen the tax bite wherever possible so you keep more of your income and investment earnings. Coordinating tax planning with investment management and tax preparation provides the opportunity to make decisions about savings plans, investment allocation, holding periods, fringe benefits and more.

At Liberty Financial Group, tax planning is a major part of life planning and is not put off to the side. We look at taxes as a piece in your “life plan” puzzle. Each piece affects all the other pieces, your investments, cash flow, insurance planning, estate planning, college planning, etc. But we don’t let the tax tail wag the dog either!

Our team has decades of experience and analyzes all aspects of your situation and works with you to use the tax code to your advantage. Tax laws and their interpretation change regularly, so we keep up to date on the changes and their effect on you now and in the future.

Tax preparation: This service is offered, but not required, and allows us first hand to closely understand your complete return. We also work closely with your own preparer, if you so choose and use those returns to enhance our planning for you.

Tom entered the financial planning world through a job early in his career selling insurance and tax/business planning services. The company he worked for created a service called “Financial Planning” which was targeted to attorneys and insurance agents. He read the material which piqued his interest. Tom was eager to use his love of math to help individuals and families and this seemed like a great fit to do so!

From there he worked for a local insurance agency who claimed to do financial planning. Tom was not excited about what they called “financial planning” which was essentially selling insurance and some mutual funds. Knowing his clients deserved better, Tom and a fellow associate June Schroeder, decided to form a company that would truly put the client’s interest first. They dreamed of no longer needing to sell products. 

In 1981, they formed Liberty Financial Group, Inc (LFG) to do just that! Fiduciary financial planners who sell no products, an idea that has stood the test of time!


 Tom Wargin, President and current shareholder, is Liberty’s chief compliance officer and investment manager. He carries the designation of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designee and maintains his insurance license for consulting purposes.

As a registered investment advisor representative and portfolio manager, Tom uses a value oriented, contrarian approach coordinated with the client’s risk tolerance and financial goals in a simple, common sense style. He is motivated to work with you to create your unique road map to success!

In Tom’s free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife Judy. He puts his green thumb to work as an avid gardener, producing some of the best tomatoes and cucumbers Liberty has had! You can find Tom practicing wood-work or at a local farmer’s market on the weekend!

Growing up, little June didn’t want to be a ballerina or a track star like two of her friends. June wanted to be a cowgirl or a naturalist. She collected horse statues and bugs galore.  Knowing this you may wonder how she became the financial planner she is today. She took a few twists and turns but ultimately ended up where God intended her. A turning point in her story is when her dad became ill with heart problems and June began spending a lot of time in hospitals. June was inspired and decided she was going to be a nurse. She went through high school with that intent and achieved that goal in 1969. However, when her dad died, he entrusted the family finance management to June. When her mom didn’t know how to write out a check to enroll her in nursing school, the memory of her mom’s embarrassment was burned in her mind. 

Years later while the Director of Economic Security for the Wisconsin Nurses Association, June went to a seminar on financial planning for herself and she had an “aha” moment. Financial planning process was similar to the nursing process in many ways. It also included a lot of math and June was the only girl in her beloved advanced math classes in high school! She then thought about her mom’s predicament and realized how much unhealthy stress is caused by lack of financial knowledge. June already knew how financial education was needed amongst her peers and decided to expand nursing into the field of finance. June and Tom created Women’s Financial in 1981 and it has evolved into Liberty Financial Group as it stands today.

June Ann Schroeder carries a Bachelor of Science – Nursing degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is a Certified Financial Planner TM professional and carries her Wisconsin insurance licenses in life, health, disability, and property casualty for consulting purposes. She also continues to maintain her license as a registered nurse. June specializes in planning for life and retirement.  She is devoted to the financial well-being of her clients and how it also affects their health and outlook on life. She enjoys meeting with clients guiding them as they unravel what she calls “the onion” of their life and finances starting and continuing with cash flow management.

June is a long time member of the Financial Planning Association of Wisconsin of which she has been a board member several times. Her presentations to various groups are filled with humor and common sense.  Outside of work, she is a board member for several non-profit organizations, sings in her church choir, acts in a community theater and is the go-to neighborhood public wealth nurse!  She lives with her husband, Mike McCormick, and dog Fritz, in West Bend, Wisconsin.

One of Shannon’s fondest memories is the many years she was asked as a child, what do you want to do when you grow up? For almost a decade she replied “teacher”. Little did she know that her passion would take an unexpected turn. 

Shannon took her fascination for math and science, and began working at LFG in 1995. She quickly climbed up the LFG ladder, realizing that financial planning isn’t just numbers. Financial planning has numbers but also needs the scientific tools to produce theories for recommendations and acquire the interpersonal skills to relay this information.  Something like a teacher? Shannon grew into the teacher, admittedly a different one than expected, that she always thought she would be.

Shannon obtained her certification as a Financial Planning Qualified Professional™ from the College for Financial Planning in 2007, and graduated with a B.S. in Financial Services in 2014.  

Loving the values, philosophy and the founding partners’ motto as fiduciaries, or clients always first, Shannon has been with Liberty for more than 24 years! Shannon started as an intern, later becoming a full-time portfolio manager’s assistant, VP of Operations and financial planner.  Her devotion to teaching felt truly achieved once she became part owner and partner of LFG in 2015.  Now a teacher of financial planning, helping clients reach their potential, discovering the challenges along the way, and creating a plan unique to their lives.   

Shannon is an active board member in the Financial Planning Association of Wisconsin.  She loves to travel with her family, and hopes to one day get her husband on board towards a tiny house commitment lifestyle.  Taking the time to reduce the everyday stress, liability and becoming a future care free retiree (also her goals for her clients!).

Growing up, David was in a unique position as his father was a financial planner. He learned from early on the value of money and hard work. His father even had him work for him at the young age of 10! However, David swore he was going to take his own path, and became a chef after originally going to college for teaching. 

David could just not shake the strong financial skills and values instilled in him. He was moved by the lack of financial education in the world and decided to use his skills to help the world around him. David started at Liberty in 2008 and as you may have guessed, was quickly thrown into the fire. He excelled! Now, over 10 years later, he is a shareowner of the firm. He may not have originally wanted to go down this path, however he now believes this is the path intended for him.

David Wargin is the Vice President of Technology Research and Practice Management for the company, determining the greatest use of technology and establishing best practices in today’s ever-changing world.  He regularly meets with clients for financial planning needs and collaborates on investment portfolio allocations and trading. David also facilitates money transfer requests and periodic money distributions as well as performs social security and portfolio survivability analysis.

David is an avid reader and possesses a passion for history. He loves sports, both playing and watching, of all kinds and also enjoys cooking for friends and family. He lives with a calico cat named Olivewho as he says “chose him” after showing up on his doorstep.

Brittany grew up with a fascination for numbers and knew from early on a business career would be in her future. Growing up one of her favorite online games allowed her to invest her game tokens in the fake stock market to hopefully increase her total pot. She didn’t realize this would be an early indicator of her career until much later. In high school, she excelled in math and scored nearly a perfect score in her personal finance class. However, she didn’t know that being a financial planner was her calling until college. She went into college as an actuarial science major but quickly learned she was an extrovert and helping people was her passion. While she loved numbers, sitting behind a cubicle pushing buttons on a calculator was not for her. After a discussion with a counselor, she quickly switched to their financial planning program. She found that her love of numbers and details could help others manage their finances, which developed into her dream career.

Brittany Komorowski carries a Bachelor of Science- Personal Finance degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s prestigious financial planning program. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM professional and an Enrolled Agent through the Internal Revenue Service. She also carries her Wisconsin life insurance license for consulting purposes. Brittany is involved in Liberty’s tax services and client meetings. She is passionate about helping clients develop a unique plan that aligns with their values to help them accumulate, maintain and preserve their wealth. 

Brittany is actively involved in Financial Planning Association of Wisconsin and is a current board member. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering preparing tax returns through the VITA program and presenting financial literacy presentations to high schoolers through Secure Futures. She currently lives in New Berlin with her two cats, Jackson and Cooper. On the weekends you can find her cheering on her favorite teams, the Packers and Badgers, or enjoying a slice of her favorite Mac-n-Cheese pizza.

Renee joined the Liberty team in 2017 bringing over 20 years of experience in business operations and office management.  As the Client Service Manager, she is involved with making sure our client service coordination is in top performance along with accounting maintenance and payroll systems. Renee works hard to ensure Liberty is the best it can be for our clients! 

As a Liberty client herself, we recruited Renee to our staff as we knew she’d be the perfect fit.  Renee enjoys learning about the financial planning process and contributing in wherever she can. She utilizes her perspective as both a client and team member to create the best client experience possible. 

Renee graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran College with a Bachelor’s of Arts, Psychology degree. She currently lives in Milwaukee and enjoys spending time with family and friends. You can find Renee cheering on our local sports teams, volunteering for her church and participating in college alumni events. Renee was a three-sport athlete in college and even won a women’s slam dunk contest in college. We think she is just as skilled on and off the court.

Jessica joined Liberty in 2012 with several prior years of executive support experience. She provides administrative support in the firm’s daily operations and enjoys serving as client liaison; working in unison with clients and financial advisors to ensure clients have a great experience. Jessica enjoys coordinating special side projects and our wonderful client events!  

She enjoys the people-first, family atmosphere at LFG. It’s also important for Jessica to have family flexibility while her kids are growing up. Jessica feels coming to work for a moral company that appreciates both its clients and employees is rewarding, and, uncommon practice in this world of giant companies. 

Jessica lives in Milwaukee is married to her wonderful husband Mike. She has one teenage son as well as three grown step children.  At home, they have a lizard named Spike and a rescue cat named Rigby, that absolutely loves people. Jessica enjoys spending time with her family, and can often be seen at her son’s soccer games.

Breanna joined our team in 2015 as an intern but has moved up the ladder into a Client Service Specialist role. Breanna is a jack of all trades. She assists with meeting preparation, required minimum distributions, and helping oversee new programs, to name just a few. Providing an excellent client experience is very important to her. Breanna’s strong attention for detail and organization skills produces excellent results!

Breanna graduated from MATC in 2018 with an associate’s in Business Management. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s in Marketing Management at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. She enjoys applying concepts from her coursework to help improve Liberty’s online presence and marketing efforts. Breanna loves the flexibility that we offer with her busy school schedule and Liberty’s strong team environment. 

Breanna is a Milwaukee native and currently lives in Oak Creek with her boyfriend, Jaydon, and cat, Jasper. In her free time, she enjoys painting and photography. Breanna especially enjoys capturing the beauty of nature scenes, the mountains being some of her favorites. So far, she’s traveled to three mountain ranges: the Alps, Rockies & Smokies, but she hopes to add more to that list.
